The crosswalk that was previously located at Starlite Dr. and 3200 W. has been moved north on 3200 W. approximately 50 yards. The school zone signage and school zone have been moved north as well. For students living south of Starlite Drive, walk on established sidewalks to 8475 S., cross at the crosswalk to the east side of 3200 W., then walk north on the east side of 3200 W. These students may cross the light rail tracks on their way to/from school. Students should use caution while crossing these tracks, paying attention to the signs posted and staying on the sidewalk.

Students living north of 9000 South, South of Villa West, and West of Bangerter Highway: It is recommended that students stay away from from the intersection at 9000 S. and Bangerter Highway. The safest walking route for students is to follow the sidewalk west (along 9000 S., away from Bangerter) to 4000 West. Once they have reached 4000 West, turn north and follow the sidewalk to the Trax lines. Use extreme caution when crossing the train tracks, obeying all posted traffic signs and traffic lights and using the crosswalk to get to the north side of the street. Once on the north side of the Trax on 4000 West, students should turn east on to Old Bingham Highway, following the paved walk way and sidewalks. Access the pedestrian bridge on this street to cross Bangerter Highway. After leaving the pedestrian bridge, students will continue on Old Bingham Highway until they reach Starlite Drive. There has been a crosswalk added at Old Bingham Highway and Starlite drive. Students should use this crosswalk at all times. Turn east on Starlite Drive and continue to Joel P. Jensen Middle School. 9000 South is a posted truck route with a high volume of traffic. (Both AM and PM) CAUTION: Students living in the neighborhood west of 4000 West and south of the train tracks should follow the same walking route as the students who live east of 4000 West (see above description). Students should avoid walking in or on the TRAX corridor. It is patrolled by UTA police and unsafe for pedestrians.

Jensen.

Be extremely careful and look both ways Students living east of 3200 W. and north of the railroad tracks, but south of 7800 S.: Use existing sidewalks to 7800 S. or Haun Drive, then walk north or south on 3200 W. to JPJ.

SNAP Requests - West Jordan City

  • Lack of turning lane on 3200 West in front of the school.
  • No crossing guard at 9000 South.
  • Students using the cat walk from the neighborhood to the west of the school usually cross 3200 W. right in front of the cat walk. There is a cross walk located about 20 yards to the south of the entrance/exit of the cat walk where the students come out in the in morning. However, most of the students that use the cat walk to come to school do not use the crosswalk and instead cross 3200 W. right in front of the cat walk. In the morning when it is dark, visibility issues exist when the students come out of the cat walk and cross the street because there is no lamp post by the cat walk. It is difficult to see the students and this poses a potential issue with students possibly getting hit by oncoming traffic on 3200 W. Suggestions are to add a lamp post light at the entrance/exit of the cat walk.
  • It has been suggested by the team that there be flashing lights installed at 7625 S. 3200 W.
  • It has also been suggested that flashing lights be installed at the crosswalk at 7000 S. and Bromley.
